Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The department of Consulting Services and Support encompasses classroom and
computer technology support services; the Technology Assistance Center ( TAC ) and
TAC Repairs); LMS management and Special Events support. Specifically, this
department:
Manages the Technology Assistance Center – the university’s help desk – and TAC
Repairs, responds to classroom computing emergencies to keep downtime to a minimum, maintains and upgrades CTAP (Classroom Technology Assistance Plan classroom equipment, delivers classroom training (basic troubleshooting, clickers, lecture/capture systems, provides technical support, services and consulting (including hardware and software installation, troubleshooting, computer recommendations, AV infrastructure, provides Special Event services (lighting, sound and video, coordinates the lifecycle distribution process, supports the LMS systemManages ITSM initiative.

Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Computer Consultant works independently and is responsible for the following duties:
-Resolves call/trouble tickets and monitors daily/weekly/monthly progress against defined parameters

-Creates daily schedule and sets appointments to maximize efficient movement between buildings and/ or users, but is flexible enough to handle emergencies

-Sets priorities and uses ticket tracking software effectively in order to keep escalations to a minimum, while keeping ticket documentation up to date and accurate, including problem resolution

-Follows procedures or technical instructions and creates same as necessary for users and/or peers

-Serves as a productive team member or technical lead on various IT related projects.
Assists with timely completion of project tasks and ensures completion of direct assignments

-Advises project team of end-user impact while working to reach project goals
Interacts with both ITS and outside departments to test, troubleshoot, and resolve project issues

-Responsible for ensuring that security configuration documentation (e.g., baseline, backup, etc.) exists for all critical systems and that the documentation accurately reflects the current state

-Ensures efficient and effective delivery on all compliance activities

-Demonstrates substantial technical knowledge in the areas including (but not limited to) desktop and laptop computer hardware and software (Mac and Windows), common peripherals, mobile devices, networking connections and scripting

-Must be able to communicate technical information effectively and in non-technical terminology

-Stays current with latest technology and trends, and advises peers and managers of impact based on knowledge of organization to methodically step through process to assess and analyze where problem is occurring

-Uses same technique to create technical documents and instructions

-Performs diagnostics and maintenance of office, lab, and teaching lab technologies, troubleshooting non-routine problems as they arise

-Sets up and configures new hardware and software, as well as perform data migration and training on new technologies and equipment

-Creates knowledge base articles on common issues and refers end-users to documented solutions to enable self-support and faster problem resolution

-Serve as a technical resource to clients by analyzing and assessing client needs and advising on the purchase and functionality of the microcomputer systems, software, and peripherals to create an effective and appropriate solution

-Ensures all critical systems and applications you manage receive security patches and vulnerability remediation in a timely manner according to best practices and documented standards and procedures

-In consultation with management, ensure all critical systems have security monitoring, logging, alerting, and scanning enabled and maintained using the campus approved systems

-Ensures efficient and effective delivery on all compliance activities

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Graduation from a two year technical college with a major in an Information Technology field and one year in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or graduation from a four year college or university and one year experience in the information technology field related to the position’s role; or graduation from a four year college or university with a major in an Information Technology area. Related information technology experience may be substituted year for year for the required education.

Preferred education, professional skills and experience

Prefer Computer Science or Information Systems degree and 2 years of work experience

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, ability to interact with a broad range of faculty, staff, and students

Ability to connect to both wired and wireless networks

Ability to climb a ladder as well as lift and carry 30 lbs

Required Certifications or licensure

Ability to attain Dell and/or Apple certifications within first year of hire.
