Academic Technologist



Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University announces a new position on the Academic Technology team. The Academic Technologist assists in the identification, testing, and implementation of innovative teaching and learning technologies and solutions that address the needs of today’s learners. This position works collaboratively with the Executive and Associate Directors of Academic Technology, college leadership, staff, faculty, the Instructional Design & Development team, the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence, representatives from residential campuses, and vendor representatives to assess the needs of the institution and seek out potential solutions that align with the university’s strategic goals. The technologist is responsible for making presentations to leadership for the purpose of recommending and demonstrating prospective technologies, and to faculty and staff to provide training.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Research, test, and provide recommendations/presentations to stakeholders directly related to their needs
  • Assist in the implementation of technology and training of appropriate stakeholders
  • Collaborate with the Integrations Specialist to vet solutions and create job aids
  • Work with college leadership, course developers, and subject matter experts to identify program specific technology needs
  • Manage development, training, and implementation of new functionality in Embry-Riddle, Worldwide’s Virtual Community, eUnion
  • Collect and analyze data, prepare reports, develop and participate in assessments related to the implementation of new tools


Qualifications :

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (Academic or Instructional Technology preferred)
  • (1-3) years of work related experience


Required skills, knowledge and abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of Learning Management Systems (Canvas preferred) & web conferencing/meeting platforms (Zoom and Teams preferred)
  • Basic understanding of HTML and CSS
  • Understanding of how to install, configure, and support applications that connect to the LMS using LTI
  • Knowledge about kinds of call requests that can be made using APIs, including conventions to follow
  • Experience with both Windows, Mac OS, iOS, and Android OS
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Comfortable presenting to groups of all sizes
  • Ability to maintain collaborative relationships with all levels within and external to the organization
  • Exceptional research skills related to investigating potential technologies
  • Ability to maintain patience under pressure in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to problem solve independently and work collaboratively with team members
