Public Safety Supervisor

North Carolina Central University

Closing Date: 10/20/2020 at 11:55 PM

Primary Purpose of Position:
The Public Safety Supervisor works as a Patrol Sergeant who manages and directs employees in general patrol, traffic enforcement, and investigative work. Knowledge of staff availability, skills, and resources to designate assignments. Establishes employee work expectations, reviews reports and assesses squad performance based on standards. With any other duties designed by the Chief of Police

Minimum Education/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of law enforcement experience. Certification as a law enforcement officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the ability to achieve certification within one year of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The major change in this position is that the Communications Section (8 employees) has been returned to report to and be managed by this position. The Communications Section was moved about a year ago to report to the patrol squad supervisors (lieutenants), with 2 communicators reporting to each lieutenant. This has proven to be a poor decision that has caused an intolerable degradation in performance. This position continues to manage information technology, special events (including hiring, staffing, and payroll), armory, equipment, and vehicles. The position also plays a critical role in acting as Command for special events and as a line patrol squad supervisor. The position continues to report to the Administrative Division Captain.

Special Instructions to Applicants:
For employment/re-employment priority, this vacancy is treated as Pay Plan Conversion GN06
