Assistant Teaching Professor/Lecturer of Media Production, Video Production and Broadcasting

The School of Humanities at Penn State Harrisburg is accepting applications for a non-tenure line Assistant Teaching Professor/Lecturer of Media Production, Video Production, and Broadcasting to start August 2021. The program seeks candidates with teaching and research expertise in media production studies, narrative and documentary filmmaking, media in popular culture, broadcast, and sports journalism in and about a wide range of diverse cultural subjects. Teaching assignments will include general education courses for first-year students (including mass media and society, cinema art, and/or graphic design) in addition to the Communication program's media production courses such as new media production, multimedia journalism production, basic and advanced video production, sports broadcasting, audio production/reporting, etc. In addition, the candidate will supervise student media production practicums: podcasting, streaming media and/or live-to-tape studio production.

The minimum educational credential required for the applicant is a M.A. in Communications, or a related field, with an emphasis on video production or media production and broadcast. Candidates with a Ph.D. or M.F.A. in Communications with a focus on filmmaking, broadcast journalism, media production, or a related field are preferred. Degree must be completed by the time of hire. This is a fixed-term, non-tenure track appointment with the possibility of reappointment. Full-time faculty normally teach four courses per semester. The successful candidate will have college teaching experience, filmmaking or media-industry production experience, and a commitment to university service and public outreach. Previous experience in advising and mentoring students is preferred. A familiarity with a wide range of media production practices and tools is required.
