Reporting to the payroll manager, the payroll analyst will provide analytical and technical assistance processing multiple payrolls including related tax compliance services. The payroll analyst is responsible for reviewing, analyzing, reconciling, and interpreting payroll data as it relates to payroll taxation, garnishments, and regulatory compliance for payroll processing as well as reporting, analysis, and maintenance of payroll processes and systems. This position also provides payroll processing support to employees, including initiating and reviewing payroll related tasks, as well as identifying and resolving issues related to payroll. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Perform end-to-end, accurate, and timely processing of multiple payrolls (bi-weekly and monthly) in accordance with labor regulations and standard accounting and payroll principles
  • Manage workflow to ensure all payroll transactions will be processed accurately and timely
  • Identify and resolve payroll discrepancies by researching and understanding federal, state, and local requirements; analyze payroll and payroll tax data, including gross-to-net calculations; and evaluate and understand the ‘down-stream’ impact of the discrepancy and corrective actions
  • Research, analyze, and resolve payroll related problems or questions
  • Process all payroll related functions in Workday; utilize test system for troubleshooting purposes
  • Assist employees with tax withholding and direct deposit changes through Employee Self-Service
  • Run reports for timekeeping, absence, and payroll
  • Process accurate and prompt retroactive and special payments
  • Work cross-functionally with other teams across campus in the processing and analysis of bi-weekly and monthly payrolls
  • Collaborate with the Office of Information Technology Services, Office of Human Resources, and other internal College departments and third-party vendors such HSA Bank, Group Dynamics, TIAA, etc. to ensure data transmission and security protocols are evaluated, documented, and in place for all pay related systems
  • Follow departmental practices; develop and/or recommend new or revised guidelines to improve overall efficiency
  • Process wage garnishments and liens in accordance with federal and state laws
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of periodic/special reports and filings for government agencies, tax authorities, and insurance companies as required
  • Analyze and process payments on specific payroll liabilities in accordance with prompt timelines given
  • Coordinate with divisional colleagues on withholding taxes on foreign workers and reporting to various tax authorities
  • Respond to various audit and tax agency queries and requests
  • Ensure compliance with College policies and procedures, governmental regulations, wage tax laws, segregation of duties, Department of Labor, and other federal and state legislation impacting payroll; adhere to established control objectives
  • Maintain employees’ confidence and protect payroll operations by keeping information confidential
  • Perform additional duties as assigned; duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice


QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible payroll related or business experience
  • Relative work experience in higher education or comparably sized human resources/payroll function in a mid-large organization preferred
  • Demonstrated understanding of wage and hour laws regarding state, federal, and local payroll taxes
  • Familiarity with Workday preferred
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel and accounting/finance
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal skills, and support-oriented
  • Proven problem solving and decision-making skills, and high level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong skills using and understanding the flow of transactions in an integrated and automated payroll accounting system
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion and sound judgment
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, establish priorities, and work collaboratively as a member of a diverse community


KEY RELATIONSHIPS :

Reporting to the payroll manager, this position has significant interactions with administrators, faculty, staff, and other outside constituencies.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

General open office and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Computer usage involving repetitive hand/wrist motion is also necessary. Ability to move around campus is required, as is some travel.
