Job Description Summary

This position is responsible for function and oversight of the Transition ESL program, including liaising with the Adult Education ESL and academic ESL programs, to assure that the content and quality of instruction meet the requirements set out by the Teaching, Learning and Student Success area, by funders, and by partners.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree required in a related field
  2. Two years full-time or equivalent experience in the professional area. Must have supervised personnel a minimum of two years.
  3. MA ESL strongly preferred


Criteria

CRITERIA : The following criteria, which are not the sole criteria used in the final hiring decision, will be used to review the applications of those persons who meet the stated minimum qualifications and to select those qualified applicants who will be interviewed. Other information and observations made during the interview process may be considered in the selection process.   1. Oversee, supervise, plan and evaluate the college’s Transition ESL and Refugee Training programs. This includes staff, adjunct faculty members, students, all delivery methods (classroom, distance learning, etc.), at on- and off-campus locations.
  2. Manage and supervise, delegate tasks, coach, counsel and evaluate the performance of instructors and staff.
  3. Recruit, interview, recommend for hire, orient, train, and evaluate adjunct faculty, consultants and support staff.
  4. Develop and manage budgets for the Transition ESL and Refugee Training programs.
  5. Develops grant applications and related documents (e.g. required reports, budgets, specific inquiries, etc.)
  6. Ensure full compliance with national, state and local laws and, as required, with grantor policies and requirements.
  7. Communicate regularly with off-site staff and instructors on program and personnel issues
  8. Plan, prepare and conduct professional development activities, including classroom observations and feedback, workshops and institutes, and dissemination of information and materials.
  9. Oversee the development writing of curricula and materials.
  10. Establish procedures to monitor and evaluate programs, and modify or eliminate as needed.
  11. Conduct periodic internal audits of program and student files.
  12. Promote the college’s capabilities and services for the purpose of engagement and goodwill and to increase the community’s overall knowledge of Prince George’s Community College.
  13. Network with other team members, other campus offices, other community colleges and the general community to accomplish work objectives.
  14. Actively participate in professional development and in appropriate committees, task forces, professional associations and organizations at the campus, state, regional and national levels.
  15. Field internal and external inquiries
  16. Represent the Transition ESL program at meetings and other functions
  17. Perform other related duties as assigned.
  18. Collaborate and communicate with the American Job Center ( AJC )


Job Requirements

  1. Applicant must be available to work Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
    The work schedule subject to change based on the needs of the department.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English.
  3. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. Citizen or an alien who is authorized to work.
