Job Description

The Department of English at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English in the area of Writing Studies. The expected start date is fall 2021. We seek a colleague with one or more of the following specializations:
  • Digital or multimodal writing and rhetoric
  • Writing in the disciplines (WID)


The successful candidate will be a productive scholar in Writing Studies, with a record of publication and/or presentations. Candidates who can help implement programs and curricula responsive to our department's institutional and regional context are strongly desired. We encourage candidates who are prepared to meaningfully contribute to equity and inclusion in their discipline and at TAMU-CC.

In addition to maintaining an active research agenda, the new hire will teach within our newly implemented and growing Writing Studies Track within the existing English BA and teach graduate courses in the existing MA program. The new hire will also serve on departmental, college, and university committees and mentor students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

The base teaching load at TAMU-CC for tenure-line faculty, after a one course release for maintaining an active research agenda, is 3/3. Summer teaching assignments may be available but are not guaranteed.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, or Technical Communication, or a Ph.D. in English with one of those three emphasis areas. Advanced ABD will be considered; degree must be conferred by the time of appointment.
  • Specialization in digital or multimodal writing and rhetoric OR writing in the disciplines.
  • An active scholarship/research record and agenda in Writing Studies.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience teaching professional and technical writing courses
  • Online teaching experience
  • Administrative experience in writing
  • A culturally responsive approach to scholarship and teaching
  • Outreach experience to other disciplines and programs, K-12 education, or communities
