This position oversees all experiential education experiences, including the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE) and the Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE).  The main responsibilities include the acquisition and maintenance of the IPPE and APPE rotation sites.

 

Teaching Load:

  • The Assistant Dean / Director for Experiential Education will contribute to the teaching load of the Department in which he/she holds an appointment. The amount of teaching is determined by the Department Chair and approved annually with the Dean.

 

Assistant Dean / Director Responsibilities:

  • Procurement and maintenance of experiential sites required for the Doctor of Pharmacy program;
  • Oversee the experiential education program including student schedules, evaluation of students, preceptors, and site evaluations;
  • Provide the leadership necessary to develop and implement effective outcomes for the experiential learning program;
  • Provide mentorship to preceptors and students assigned to experiential sites;
  • Pursue scholarly activities and professional development;
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships that support the experiential program in order to foster the mission and vision of the College;
  • Participate in accreditation and regulatory processes as appropriate;
  • Collaborate with the Chair of Clinical Sciences to develop and maintain ongoing preceptor development programs; and
  • Supervise administrative staff and experiential education area coordinators.
  • Assist in the placement of Clinical Sciences faculty in clinical practice sites
  • Provide service to the college or university as assigned by the department chair or dean.

Education requirements:
  • D. or Ph.D. in pharmacy-related discipline
Education & training preferences:
  • Pharmacist licensure in California (or eligible for licensure in the state of California)
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited Residency
  • Previous experience in experiential education in pharmacy

 Skills & Experience:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience in direct patient care and preceptorship
  • Pharmacist licensure in California (or eligible for licensure in the state of California)
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited Residency
  • Previous experience in experiential education in pharmacy
