Assistant Professor of English in Rhetoric & Composition
The University of Scranton Department of English & Theatre invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor of English in Rhetoric & Composition with a specialization in cultural rhetorics, rhetorics of race and ethnicity, critical race theory, or Black or African-American rhetorics, beginning August 2021. Additional areas of teaching and/or scholarly interests may include one or more of the following: community-based learning; public pedagogies; public humanities; and/or digital humanities. Ability to teach from an intersectional, social justice framework that centers race, ethnicity, and/or migration status will be key. This search is part of a broader cluster hiring approach, which will contribute to the development of Black Studies at the University.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Rhetoric & Composition or related field by August 2021, college-level teaching experience, and appropriate scholarly activity. Teaching load will include general-education writing and occasional advanced courses reflecting individual interests and specializations. The 4/3 contractual teaching load is typically reduced to 3/3 for those with active scholarly agendas. Salary competitive.
