The cadet lifestyle provides an environment that supports the growth and development of character, physical fitness, and moral and spiritual principles. All cadets participate in one of the ROTC programs – Army, Air Force, or Naval/Marine Corps. Participation does not require students to accept a commission or be committed to active military duty.

The Citadel has maintained its student enrollment for the 20-21 academic year at 99.8% of its prior year enrollment and has an endowment that is over four times its operating (Education and General) budget. The Citadel’s debt is less than 15% of total revenue and The Citadel has cash and current assets that are over four times the amount of total debt.

Job Responsibilities:

The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is seeking an application for a Director of Financial Reporting in the Financial Services Department. Will supervise the preparation of all The Citadel's financial statements; to includes financial statements for The Citadel, The Citadel Trust, the NCAA, the Commission on Higher Education, the State Comptroller General, the US Census Department and accrediting agencies. Must be able to supervise the preparation of responses to information requests made by other governmental entities, such as the Commission of Higher Education, IPEDS; as well as information requests from throughout the college and not only reconciles the financial statements but also provides top level analysis and interpretation of the reports to make sure that the information makes sense with what has actually happened at the college.

Must be able to research and implement generally accepted accounting, Governmental Accounting Standards Board, State CG, and other revisions to reporting standards as well as coordinate changes throughout the college to remain in conformance. Will also provide a top level analysis and interpretation of the reports to make sure that the information makes sense with what has actually occurred at the college. Will be the primary contact for auditors, both internal and external. Assist the auditors with the system information, schedule requests for additional data, prepare worksheets, and respond to audit concerns. Act as liaison for the auditor when the auditor needs to work with executive level management in other areas of the college.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree and professional experience in related area such as accounting, auditing, banking or finance. Employee needs a strong technical accounting background. Must have knowledge of the principles, practices, and theories of accounting and financial management. Experience in financial statement preparation and analysis, report preparation and analysis, general ledger systems and strong analytical and research skills are required. Employee must have supervisory skills commensurate with supervisory responsibilities and the ability to interact with personnel to resolve accounting issues. Employee must have executive skills to initiate dialogs leading to college-wide procedural changes. In depth knowledge of laws and regulations pertaining to endowment fund management is critical.

Preferred Qualifications:

A CPA is preferred; Masters Degree in Accounting is an eligible substitute for CPA. Prefer previous accounting courses. Banner experience highly desired. Broader experience in fund accounting, investment/endowment accounting, cost accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, capital asset management and payroll/taxation desirable.
