Governors State University seeks applications for a Conservation Genetics assistant professor position in the undergraduate Biology and graduate Biology programs in the Division of Science, Mathematics and Technology, College of Arts and Sciences. The position is available August 2021 or until filled. This position is full time and tenure-track. The preferred candidate should demonstrate strong potential to teach Genetics, Biodiversity and/or a course in her/his area of expertise at the upper division and MS level in Conservation Genetics or related area. The candidate will also contribute to the Junior Year Seminar and may teach lower division coursework for incoming Biology majors, or non-majors. The successful applicant will be expected to conduct research and mentor research students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and show good potential for publishing and procuring grants. Preference will be given to candidates interested in studying invertebrate or plant populations by employing modern analytical/molecular techniques to address problems and hypotheses in areas such as conservation genetics, toxicology, and management and policy. Individuals dedicated to teaching and mentoring women, first generation university students, non-traditional students, and students of color in the sciences are encouraged to apply and will be given preference. The Biology programs offered include bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Biology Teacher Education, and master’s degree in Biology. Successful applicants will have an earned Ph.D. in the biological sciences; candidates in ABD status will be considered.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Ph.D. in the biological sciences or closely related field. ABD in the final stages of completion will be considered.
2. University teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications

1. Ability to teach undergraduate Genetics, Biodiversity, and graduate courses in Conservation Genetics, and courses that relate to aspects of Management and Policy
2. Work with invertebrate or plant population(s) and molecular techniques
3. High potential for publishing and procuring grants
