Information Technology Services Job Description
Job Summary
Responsible for the stewardship, development, integration and maintenance of academically-oriented enterprise level web-based applications used to support teaching and learning These include by faculty, staff, and students such as the learning management system (currently Moodle), online multimedia publishing platform (currently WordPress), eportfolio (currently WordPress), and other tools used in support of teaching and learning. Provides consultation and support for faculty, staff, and students using these systems. Collaborates with staff and faculty to design, develop, test and improve these platforms in support of teaching and research. Recommends and implements additional functionalities to meet systemic or project requirements. Integrates enterprise systems with external service providers. Contributes to institutional planning around the development of our academic and co-curricular toolspace.
Essential Functions
Academic Applications Integration and Development (65%):
Develop and manage continuous improvements to enterprise-level academic applications, including the course management system (Moodle), online multimedia publishing platform, and eportfolio platform (WordPress). Investigate, install, support, test, enhance, and develop modules and services, working with members of ITS and other campus constituencies to meet the goals of the campus wide academic community, as well as course-based projects and other academic initiatives.
Instruction/Presentation/Consultation (30%):
Work with faculty and staff as a technical lead and consultant to envision, plan and implement projects on enterprise platforms. Conduct hands-on workshops and one-to-one instruction and help sessions on applications for faculty, staff and other members of the Smith community. Present group software demonstrations for faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Develop online training and reference materials for internal use and for use by outside users.
Community/Professional Development (5%):
Maintain professional skills by attending conferences, workshops, and trade shows. Present instructional technology projects at regional and national events. Contribute to consortial code, knowledge repositories, and online communities in support of technologies in use on campus. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)
Experience in application administration and maintenance of open-source application codebases, preferably in Moodle, and/or WordPress, or an equivalent combination of education/experience. Knowledge of relevant educational theory and practice in higher education. Ability to communicate among and across technical and non-technical audiences and contexts.
Skills
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Strong programming skills. Knowledge of PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, SQL, Git, and basic Linux commands.
