Job Description Summary

The Department of Geosciences at Auburn University invites applications for a Human-Environment Interactions faculty position at the rank of tenure-track Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The appointment would begin August 2021. Areas of research focus may include, but are not limited to: 1) coupled natural-human systems modelling; 2) climate change impacts; 3) natural hazards and disasters; 3) resilience and adaptation; 4) food, energy, and water; 5) environmental health; and 6) political ecology. We seek a dynamic individual who will play a strong role in propelling our growing Earth System Science Ph.D. program, Geography MS and GIS certificate programs, and participate actively in the Auburn University Climate, Human, and Earth System Science ( CHESS ) Interdisciplinary Initiative. Collaborative CHESS research programs that are regional or global in scope are currently active with faculty in the College of Sciences and Mathematics, School of Forestry and Wildlife Science, College of Engineering, College of Agriculture, and College of Liberal Arts. New faculty with expertise in Human-Environment Interactions will complement the University’s considerable existing expertise in the areas of climate change sciences, natural hazards, hydrology, and socio-environmental systems.
The successful candidate is expected to develop a vigorous, externally funded research program, publish scholarly work, and advise graduate and undergraduate students. The successful candidate will have duties that include teaching graduate and undergraduate courses based on his/her expertise.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants are expected to hold a Ph.D. in Geography or a related field at the time of appointment. Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills are necessary. The candidate selected for this position must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States on the date the appointment is scheduled to begin (August 2021) and must be able to continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Applicants who have experience teaching GIScience-related courses to support our GIS Certificate programs are desired.
