Job Description Summary
The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Japanese position, to begin in August 2021. This position has a 3-2 teaching load and will include instruction at all levels of undergraduate Japanese language, literature, and culture.
Required qualifications: the successful candidate for this position must have a PhD (in hand by August 16, 2021) in Japanese literature (period open) or film studies and have native or near-native fluency in Japanese and English. Applicants should provide evidence of teaching excellence at the college level and of potential for successful research and scholarly/professional activities. A deep awareness of effective language pedagogies, together with an interest in study abroad programs and innovative course curricula, is highly desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to strengthen the Japanese program and to participate in extra-curricular activities.
The candidate selected for this position must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time of the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.
Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Japanese literature or film studies at the time of appointment.
Desired Qualifications
Teaching experience at the college level in the US, positive teaching evaluations, and a deep awareness of effective language pedagogies.
