Job Description Summary

The Department of Pathobiology at the College of Veterinary Medicine seeks applications for a qualified tenure-track faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the area of Veterinary Clinical Pathology. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the clinical pathology service, training of residents and graduate students, teaching in the professional and graduate curriculum, and contributing to the research mission of the College.

Departmental research programs exist in aquatic pathobiology, molecular virology and bacteriology, molecular diagnostics, food safety, pathogen detection, basic and applied immunology, parasitology, platelet pathophysiology, molecular genetics, metabolic diseases, oncology, infectious diseases, embryo-pathogen interactions, epidemiology, poultry pathology and neuropathology. Additional programs exist with opportunities for collaboration within the College of Veterinary Medicine and with faculty from across Auburn University (including the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, College of Science and Mathematics, and Harrison School of Pharmacy) as well as the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. Diagnostic services include anatomic and clinical pathology, parasitology, microbiology, virology and molecular diagnostics. University core facilities support advanced microscopy and imaging, laser microdissection, multispectral imaging, magnetic resonance imaging, and flow cytometry- FACS . In addition, through institutional collaboration with the HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, a full array of genomic sequencing and functional genomic technologies is available.

Starting salary and appointment will be commensurate with professional and academic credentials and experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include D.V.M. degree (or equivalent), Ph.D. or similar post-veterinary research training in pathology or biomedical sciences, and completion of a clinical pathology residency to achieve board eligibility status in clinical pathology from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists ( ACVP ) or the European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology ( ECVCP ) at the time the employment begins.

The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment.

Desired Qualifications

Desired qualifications include a record of research scholarship, excellence in didactic classroom or small group instruction, and excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
