Working Title: Financial Specialist Official Title: Financial Specialist Employment Class: University staff FTE: 1.0 Compensation: $15.42 - $17.87 FLSA Status: Non-exempt Terms of Employment: Continuous Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Controller the incumbent in this position performs Accounts Payable duties within the Financial Services unit of the Division of Administrative Services. This position is responsible for pre-auditing and processing for payment, accounts payable documentation related to direct payment requests, payment to individual reports, speaker and entertainment contracts, purchase orders, and meal requisitions. The incumbent participates in the maintenance automated financial record keeping systems.

The incumbent is responsible for responding to inquiries from University administrators, faculty and staff members, and from external stakeholders, responses that require knowledge of the financial and administrative procedures and policies of the University, UW System, State and Federal agencies. The incumbent may provide department staff training, and also trains limited term employees, project appointments and student employees. The incumbent reports directly to the Controller. Responsibilities Manages all accounts payable, erves as back up for pre-audit of travel expense reports and Travel Advance Requests, Speaker and Entertainment Contracting Payments, Financial Reporting, University Accounting and the General Ledger and purchasing. Qualifications Required:
  1. Experience in the use of electronic financial software such as Wisconsin Data Mart (WISDM) and PeopleSoft Shared Financial System (PS-SFS)
  2. Experience in the use of computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, and Check Magic
  3. Ability to analyze data and interpret accounting policies and procedures in the review and maintenance of existing, and development of new, University and departmental procedures and processes
  4. Ability to organize, prioritize and multi-task to maintain timely completion of multiple projects from a variety of sources
  5. Ability to identify and implement action without immediate supervision
  6. Ability to interact effectively with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and colleagues, maintaining confidentiality and professionalism at all times
  7. Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
Preferred:
  1. Knowledge of UW System financial and administrative policies
  2. Knowledge of UW Oshkosh accounting, cash handling, and speaker and entertainment contract policies
