The University of Melbourne aspires to establish its dance program as a world-leader with a vision of artistic, pedagogical and research excellence, building upon its significant 40-year history. As part of this aspiration, a revitalised Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance) will be implemented in 2021. The new BFA (Dance) will continue to focus on the rigorous preparation of dancers as artists and makers, but a new pedagogical approach will involve teaching and learning in cultural leadership including in performance, community, arts management, health and wellbeing sectors and dance and technology.

About the Role 

This is a full time, continuing position. This new role will deliver subjects introduced through a revitalised BFA curriculum and be responsible for undergraduate coordination and student supervision. As a Teaching Specialist, the incumbent will maintain and grow scholarly practice in one or more areas aligned with current practices within VCA Dance. 

About you 

You will be an artist and educator who is actively engaged in the field of contemporary dance and inter-disciplinary practice. You will have a post graduate degree in a relevant field (or equivalent professional practice), an established reputation as a dance practitioner and demonstrated teaching experience in a higher education context. Demonstrated capacity to deliver existing programs in a cost-effective way. and excellent communication and interpersonal skills are also required.

Based in the beautiful Southbank Campus of The University of Melbourne, you will work nestled amongst Melbourne’s major arts and cultural organisations and venues. You will have the convenience of great transport links to the rest of the city with the serenity of the Botanical Gardens close by.
