Project Specialist/CAL-SOAP and/or GEAR UP PROGRAM

Employment Status: Temporary, part-time “non-exempt”, position through June, 30th, 2021 (Appointment may be renewed annually based upon availability of funding, availability of work and satisfactory job performance). This is not a state position.

Work Schedule: 19 hours per week, to be determined, with some evenings and weekends. Incumbent must be able to participate in remote or on campus work depending on the directives from the CSUSB campus

First Review Deadline: This position will remain open until filled. The initial review of applications will begin on October 22, 2020.

Typical Activities

Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Director of the GEAR UP and Cal-SOAP Program, the Project Specialist will work independently and in conjunction with program staff to provide specialized program support to Cal-SOAP program in at least one of the following areas:

Marketing/Communications: Responsible for the development and management of the program's communications, marketing and media campaigns; builds and manages the program's social media profiles and presence; monitors and engages relevant social discussions about our program, runs regular social campaigns and track their success; manages other design needs such as presentations, signage, and collateral as needed; perform other duties as assigned; travel within the Inland Empire may be required.

Cost Share/Match: Responsible for the collection, documentation and reporting of cost share; works with project staff to ensure that monthly, annual and partner commitments are met; researches salary, fringe benefits, donation and space valuations; performs other duties as assigned; travel within the Inland Empire may be required.

Specialized Events and Projects: Responsible for providing leadership and support to specialized academic and other events such as Cash for College, College Fairs, Career Fairs, workshops, summer programming; works with program staff to ensure proper documentation, consistent implementation and scheduling; performs other duties as assigned; travel within the Inland Empire may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:
  • Applicants must be in at least a junior standing in post-secondary education, with at least two years of experience in a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • Strong preference will be given to candidates who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project's target population.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Applicants must have strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Applicants must possess the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information, along with the ability to work cooperatively with a diverse group of people, exercise sound judgement, determine priorities, complete assigned projects in a timely manner and work well under tight deadlines.
  • Applicants must possess the following critical strengths including but not limited to: reliability, attention to detail, and strong self-initiative.
