Program Assistant - Student Organizations and Fraternity/Sorority Life

Classification: Support Staff - 8 months - 1000 hours - ends June 2021
Reports to:Director of Student Activities and Fraternity/Sorority Life
Description:The Program Assistant for Student Organizations and Fraternity/Sorority Life is an academic year appointment working approximately 25 hours per week. This individual is responsible for providing support and oversight to the fraternity and sorority community in conjunction with the Director of Student Activities & Fraternity/Sorority Life. The PA will work to ensure that student organizations and the fraternity and sorority community and department activities are consistent with the mission and goals of the University and contribute to an enriched and robust quality of student life. The Carroll University fraternity and sorority community includes member organizations from the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc., the National Panhellenic Conference, the North-American Interfraternity Conference, and local organizations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Director in developing, implementing and evaluating
a comprehensive student organization and fraternity/sorority life
program which delivers quality and diverse programming
opportunities.
- Support the Student Activities Strategic Goals through
programming and advising.
- In conjunction with the Director, serve as a primary resource
to all student organizations.
- Direct the planning and coordination of the annual Student
Involvement Fair.
- Assist in budget tracking for student organizations and
fraternity/sorority life.
- Create marketing material and promote student organization and
fraternity/sorority life events in order to encourage maximum
attendance by all students.
- Provide assistance in leading, motivating, supervising and
evaluating the student staff.
- Assess program needs and develop new programming
initiatives.
- Advise and support student organization and fraternity/sorority
leadership development
- Provide support and guidance for fraternity/sorority
recruitment, risk management, and Chapter Accreditation.
- Act as a student advocate, providing guidance and appropriate
referrals to students seeking assistance.
- Actively participate in appropriate Carroll University
committees, task forces, and professional associations and
conferences.
- Assist with the production of major University-wide programs
including New Student Orientation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Candidates must be willing and able to support and advance the
University mission.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience - Bachelor's degree required
- Preference will be given to candidates with at least two years
of experience (including undergraduate experience) in student
activities, Student Organization Management, Fraternity/Sorority
Life, program planning and/or event management.
- Strong preference for candidates affiliated with a fraternity
or sorority
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Ability to work some nights and weekends
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- High energy level, self-motivated and self-directed to design
and implement programming and events.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
