Franklin College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Biology Department at the Assistant Professor level to begin in August 2021. The ideal candidate for this position will offer an engaging Principles of Biology course for first year science majors as well as an upper-division Genetics course for Biology majors and students in the pre-Medical and pre-Physician Assistant tracks. The successful candidate will contribute to offerings in the Liberal Arts curriculum, including Immersive Winter Term and First Year Seminar courses appropriate for both majors and non-majors, and mentor undergraduate research. The opportunity exists for the new hire to develop elective courses; candidates with the capacity for developing courses in bioinformatics and evolution will be given special consideration. Our first priorities are teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate students, with secondary emphasis on service and scholarship. Faculty professional development is highly valued.

The new hire will join the College at a time of exciting curricular change complemented by a renovated and expanded science building. We provide a strong, active, and tailored liberal arts education through small class sizes and intentional relationships between students and their faculty mentors. Located about 20 miles from downtown Indianapolis, we support purposeful and practical academic experiences in and out of the classroom that leverage this location as students pursue personal, intellectual and professional growth. Please see www.FranklinCollege.edu for more details.

Candidates who can demonstrate a dedication to teaching at all levels, the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the College’s continuing commitment to diversity, a genuine interest in working with undergraduates in a small-college liberal arts setting, and the ability to work as part of a collegial team will be given preference. Franklin College has recently received a $1M grant to fund an initiative to increase digital fluency on campus; applicants with skills that complement this initiative are especially encouraged to apply. PhD or ABD is required for candidates; doctorate will be required for tenure. College-level teaching experience is preferred.

Evaluation of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position has been filled. Applicants should submit a complete application (electronic submissions preferred) including letter of application, Curriculum Vita, example of engaged learning lesson, student evaluations if available, via the application link – Franklin College Faculty Application.  Three letters of recommendation with contacts should be submitted independently to humanresources@FranklinCollege.edu.
