Tenure-track faculty position: Workplace Mental Health

Johns Hopkins, founded in 1876, is America's first research university and home to nine world-class academic divisions working together as one university.

Description

The Department of Mental Health of the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health is seeking an Associate or Full Professor level faculty member to lead a new Center for Mental Health in the Workplace. Prevention of mental illness and promotion of mental health in adulthood can have a major impact on the public’s health. A significant and often overlooked venue for development and dissemination of prevention and treatment in adulthood is the workplace. The vast majority of adults are employed, including the majority of adults with a mental illness. Partnership with employers and other corporate stakeholders can maximize prevention and promotion efforts by supporting dissemination of effective interventions to the working population.

We seek a senior-level researcher with these key characteristics:
  • Ability to meet institutional expectations of a tenured or tenure-track faculty member, as evidenced by:
    • high-quality research published in high-impact journals;
    • funding for research secured from federal, foundation and/or philanthropic resources;
    • collaboration with peers and mentorship of students and early career faculty;
  • Ability to partner with non-academic stakeholders (e.g., employers, businesses) to develop an interdisciplinary program of research on workplace mental health;
  • Possesses entrepreneurial and leadership qualities;
  • Demonstrates an understanding of clinical mental health disorders as distinct from occupational stress;
  • Passionate about the potential of developing a public health approach addressing workplace mental health.
The Department of Mental Health is the only department dedicated to mental health and situated in a school of public health. We bring together leading researchers across multiple disciplines joined by their passion for understanding, preventing, and treating mental health and substance use disorders and addressing related phenomena in the areas of aging, autism, adolescent health, child sexual abuse, disturbed sleep, environmental exposures, global mental health, and suicide. Faculty, students and community health leaders in Mental Health are dedicated to educating the next generation of public health workers and scientists about the importance of mental health, the specific skills needed to address public mental health issues and the integration of mental and physical health.

Department faculty conduct a range of research in a multi-disciplinary environment, collaborating with other departments in the Bloomberg School of Public Health (SPH), with multiple departments in the School of Medicine, and with other divisions of the Johns Hopkins University (JHU). In addition, we have active and close collaborations with a number of local and state agencies. Many DMH faculty have joint appointments in other SPH departments or other divisions of JHU. We also have multiple NIH training programs that include pre- and post-doctoral students from Mental Health and across departments and divisions, creating a highly collaborative and productive research, training, and practice environment.
