General Description of Position

Under the general supervision of the Director of Transitions and Tutoring, the Academic Coach is responsible for providing academic support to students enrolled in Transitions Lab programming to assist in potential acceleration of their academic paths. The Academic Coach also supports student academic success through the administration of tutoring services. The Academic Coach assesses the academic placement and performance of students enrolled in Transitions to design and deliver a skills-building program for them. The Academic Coach will develop/revise Transitions and tutoring curriculum, assist students with computer- and print- based instructional programs and materials, provide instruction and student success support, and facilitate workshops and tutoring sessions while assessing progress and providing direction to the students. This position is also responsible for the day-to-day planning and administration of the Tutoring and Transitions Center.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist and Support Students
Assist students in developing and sustaining an accelerated educational plan based on individual abilities, interests, goals and assessment scores. Assist and monitor student’s progress in the Transitions program to advance program acceptance/readiness and graduation requirements in reading, writing, and math courses. Assist with connecting students with tutor services.

Provide Instruction in Math, Writing, Reading and Basic Computer Skills
Provide instruction/tutoring on math fundamentals, algebra, writing, reading, basic computer skills and assistance with usage of educational software programs.

Maintain Records
Maintain accurate student records associated with Transitions course progress, achievement and completion and tutoring services. Maintain tutor employee records. Maintain student tutor tracking program and ensure log in by all students using tutoring services. Assist in gathering and interpreting data for department assessment. Assist with semester and annual data/ reports on tutoring services and Transitions Lab.

Assist with Administration of Daily Operations
Assist Director with day-to-day planning and administration of the Tutoring and Transitions Center. This includes recruiting, hiring, orienting, and supervising tutors and work studies, managing the center’s appointment program, ensuring completion of and verifying tutor logs, processing monthly tutor web-time entry, and maintaining records.

Develop/Revise Curriculum and Educational Materials
In cooperation with team members, develop and/or revise Transitions program course objectives, content such as sample tests and online course material, descriptions, and instructional strategies. Maintain current textbooks and resources for tutors.

Functions as A Member of the Tutoring and Transitions Team
Interact with colleagues, students, and staff in a manner which maximizes a positive and engaging organizational environment by encouraging input, reflective and transparent communication, and compassion and respect toward the views and ideas of others. Participate in team/ department/ division/ student services/ and college meetings.

Assist with Marketing and Promotion of the Tutoring and Transitions Center
Assist the Director with the marketing of the program, including, but not limited to: keeping website and monitor information current, presenting to classes, other programs, and college wide events, developing and distributing flyers, submitting information to campus publications and other literature for faculty, staff, students and community.

Promote/Support Diversity

Other Duties As Assigned
Additional duties assigned include, but are not limited to, attending team and campus meetings, promoting programs across the college and community, working with college advisors, admissions counselors, and instructors to provide transitions and tutoring support to students in need; assisting with semester and annual statistical reports; assisting the Director of Transitions and Tutoring with tutor training, marketing and other requests.

SCHEDULE
Normal work hours for this exempt part-time position would be scheduled by the supervisor, to occur between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, requiring a maximum of a 28-hour workweek. Special projects and assignments and periodic shifts in peak demand may require evening and weekend work.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree
2. One (1) year work experience providing support in a college environment, social/human services, education, marketing or similar occupations where ability to work with people is important.

Desired Qualifications

1. Master’s degree in Education or related field.
2. One(1) year of experience in teaching math or English at the secondary or post-secondary level, tutoring, counseling, adult education, ESL, or other related work experience.

Salary

$20.91/hr
