Position Summary
The Dean of Graduate and Extended Learning reports to the Provost/Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and will serve alongside the Deans of the academic colleges, the Dean of the School of Education, and the Director of the Library. The Dean provides leadership for the online collaborative degrees with UW System partners, coordination of additional support for graduate programs within the academic colleges, and the oversight and advocacy for the non-credit programming associated with Extended Learning. The Dean is responsible for providing the overall vision, strategic direction, long-term planning, and operational oversight for the unit and is expected to pursue new opportunities to best service traditional and non-traditional students in credit and non-credit programs. The Dean is expected to work collaboratively across campus with students, staff, and faculty and also with regional organizations, businesses, and K-12 districts. The Dean will represent UWL in UW System initiatives associated with Extended Learning.
Required Qualifications
• Academic Credentials: The Dean will have a proven record of teaching and scholarship sufficient to qualify for appointment at the rank of full professor and tenure in one of the university departments with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited university.
• Leadership and Administrative Experience: a strong record of relevant, progressively responsible administrative and management experience, including strong budget and personnel skills.
• A demonstrated commitment to ethical, honest, and transparent leadership practices.
• Teaching and/or administrative experience within a graduate program.
• Evidence of innovative and/or entrepreneurial program development within or outside of academia.
• Evidence of a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with extended and/or continuing education programs.
• Experience developing programs and initiatives in collaboration with organizations and/or business partners.
• Evidence of data-driven decision making associated with university and college values determined by strategic planning.
• Familiarity and experience with current assessment and accreditation practices.
• Demonstrated record of leadership, resulting in continuous improvement and innovation.
• Experience with needs assessment, the use of market research, content development, and program implementation.
• Experience or familiarity with camps, conferences, and/or programming for special populations such as youth.

• Supervising all personnel associated with the Graduate and Extended Learning unit.
• Providing leadership and oversight in planning, implementing, and assessing unit programming.
• Developing and implementing the strategic plan for the unit in the context of UWL and UW-System strategic planning efforts.
• Overseeing all aspects of the unit budgets including but not limited to the distribution and reconciliation of funds allocated/awarded to programs and individuals; grants received (both internal and external); revenue-generating operations; salaries and stipends; equipment; and partnerships with external entities.
• Proving leadership and support for entrepreneurial and innovative relationships between unit programs and external educational and business entities, both public and private.
• Fostering a positive working and learning environment within the unit and its programs.
• Providing leadership in developing and carrying out effective marketing and promotion strategies for credit and non-credit programming and student recruitment efforts.
• Demonstrating a commitment to Inclusive Excellence.
• Representing and advocating for unit to upper administration, the university community, and external entities.
• Promoting the scholarship, teaching, and service of graduate faculty and graduate students and the outcomes of graduate programs.
• Promoting and enhancing entrepreneurial programs for UWL .
• Building on, as well as developing, international initiatives for UWL
• Representing the unit on internal committees, councils, and boards, including but not limited to Deans’ Council, Provost’s Council, Graduate Council, and Graduate Curriculum Committee.
• Representing the university on UW-System committees, as appropriate. In particular, serving as UWL’s direct liaison with UW Extended Campus.
