VCU School of Nursing is seeking an Instructional Technologist to provide remote support and manage relevant instructional technology resources in the design, development, and delivery of online and hybrid courses. This position will be an integral resource in the migration from the Blackboard LMS (learning management system) to the Canvas LMS . Additionally, this position will assist with the management of additional technologies related to online delivery, including, but not limited to, online exam software and streaming video technology. This position will report to the Director of Academic Technology.

General Duties:

Online Course Design and Development
• Develop online course sites within the Canvas LMS in collaboration with instructional designers and according to approved course design standards.
• Manage the copying and readiness of all online course shells for each academic term.
• Ensure that online courses are ready to launch on the first day of each new academic term, meeting course structure guidelines, and reporting any discrepancies.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply Section 508, UDL, and accessibility standards for online learning environments, as well as familiarity with assistive technologies used with online course production and delivery.
• Provides technical, creative, and visual design support for web, video, and print projects.

Faculty and Staff Technology Support
• Provide faculty and student helpdesk support by responding in a timely manner for assistance in using various instructional technologies.
• Provide ongoing support to instructional designers and instructors in the building/deployment of online courses.
• Troubleshoot online and hybrid course functionality such as: discussion boards, surveys, quizzes, assignments, exams, course multimedia.
• Provide one-on-one technology and instructional support and training to faculty teaching hybrid and online courses.
• Assists with support, documentation, and training for learning technology systems.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Required Skills and Knowledge (Hard Skills):

• Experience in course and learning management systems (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas), image manipulation (e.g., Photoshop), and multimedia authoring. Skill in using and providing end-user support for technology tools.
• Well-developed understanding of personal computers (e.g., Mac and Windows), web development, and multimedia software.
• Extensive experience in online conferencing software (e.g., Zoom).
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and GSuite for Education.
• Familiarity with LTI .

Required Skills and Knowledge (Soft Skills):

• Proven ability to adapt and learn new procedures and software programs.
• Capable of leading and participating in collaborative instructional development processes and activities.
• Excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to manage and meet deadlines, a commitment to customer service, and demonstrated ability to training one-on-one or in a group setting.
• Must possess strong and comprehensive oral, written and interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with multiple constituencies in a dynamic work environment (significant planning and design work with the faculty will be by email, phone, and online conference).
• Must be self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented; exercise independent judgment to carry out duties and responsibilities; and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service.
• Ability to work remotely.
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU .

Education

• Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications

• At least two years of progressively responsible experience in course design and development, faculty training, or other related experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Technologies, Instructional Design or Multimedia Design.
• Coursework and/or demonstrated experience in digital video production.
• Experience creating course or workshop content, preferably at a university level.
