The University now seeks to appoint the inaugural Moorfields Eye Charity Chair in Advanced Ocular Imaging. The postholder will hold a joint appointment within both the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and the UCL Department of Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering, with strong links to the UCL Institute of Healthcare Engineering. The post will be funded by Moorfields Eye Charity, and the postholder will also provide a link between UCL’s Faculties of Brain and Engineering Sciences and Moorfield’s Eye Hospital.

The appointee will be an outstanding leader in the development of new ophthalmic instrumentation and techniques. Ideally, they will possess an internationally competitive track record in the construction and use of new imaging techniques such as adaptive optics, optical coherence tomography, and/or functional imaging.

The UCL Institute of Ophthalmology is committed to a multidisciplinary research portfolio that furthers an understanding of the eye and visual system linked with clinical investigations targeted to specific problems in the prevention and treatment of eye disease. Research activity ranges from fundamental biological science through to translational research in vision and ophthalmology and clinical medicine within 3 inter-related Research Theme areas.

UCL has the largest academic Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering department in the UK, and with the Institute of Healthcare Engineering brings together leading researchers to develop digital and medical technologies that transform lives across the globe, with research grouped into five broad themes that cut across healthcare need from prevention, through monitoring and diagnostics to therapies and interventions and rehabilitative & assistive technologies.
