The University of Wisconsin-Parkside invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Counseling.

The Psychology Department in the College of Natural and Health Sciences invites applications for two full-time (9-month), tenure-track assistant professor positions in the graduate program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling to begin August 2021. Responsibilities include teaching courses in the CMHC program. The teaching load is 24 credits annually. Opportunities to teach additional courses in the summer and winterim semesters may be available in both the CMHC and undergraduate psychology programs for additional compensation depending upon the needs of the Psychology Department. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching (including serving as a teaching assistant), clinical or research experiences in order to teach addictions counseling, and couples and family counseling courses. Preference will be given to candidates with experience working with students and staff from culturally diverse backgrounds. The successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to the ACA multicultural competencies, and will utilize an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework of practice. Positions will collaborate on program development and the CACREP-accreditation application process, provide clinical supervision of students in the CMHC program, and establish and maintain an active research program in the field of clinical mental health counseling.  Will contribute service to UW-Parkside, the College of Natural and Health Sciences, the Psychology Department, the profession and the community including advising students in the CMHC program. Perform other duties as assigned.



Education, Experience, Training And/or Certifications


  • Ph.D. or equivalent in Counselor Education from a CACREP-accredited program, or related area if employed as core faculty member in a CACREP-accredited counselor education program for at least one academic year before July 1, 2013. ABD will also be considered; however, contract renewal will be contingent on completing degree within one-year of hire.
  • Demonstrated Excellence in teaching (including serving as a teaching assistant).
  • Demonstrated excellence in research in clinical mental health counseling. Specialization is open.
  • Experience providing clinical supervision.
  • License or license eligible as Professional Counselor in the state of Wisconsin within 2 years of hire


60% Teaching:

  • Teaching courses in the graduate program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

30% Scholarly Research

10% Service:

Service to Psychology Department, College of Natural and Health Sciences, UW-Parkside, profession and community including advising students in the graduate program.

Essential Knowledge And Abilities

  • Knowledge and ability to teach core courses in clinical mental health counseling at the graduate level.
  • Knowledge and ability to conduct research and scholarly activities within a chosen specialty of clinical mental health counseling.
  • Knowledge and ability to conduct clinical supervision of students in graduate clinical mental health counseling program.
  • The position is not responsible for money or university funds of accounts which hold financial information.
  • Ergonomic requirements:  sufficient mobility and dexterity to move around office, campus and community.  Ability to work with keyboard, mouse and monitor.  Ability to attend meetings, workshops, seminars and conferences.
  • Equipment to be used on the job:  laptop or desktop computer, printer, copier, projector, telephone including voice mail and FAX.
