Assistant Professor of Religion, Psychology and Culture with Emphasis on Latinx Studies

Vanderbilt Divinity School seeks applications and nominations for an assistant level, tenure track professor in Pastoral Theology, Psychology of Religion, and Practical Theology who specializes in Latinx Christianity, and who makes Latinx religious and socio-cultural identities integral to their scholarly work. In addition, we seek a colleague who is pedagogically engaging and willing and able to mentor Latinx and other students. This search is open to a range of approaches to teaching and research in pastoral theology, the study of theories and dynamics of personality, the practice and theory of pastoral theology and care, the critical and constructive reflection on the methods and substance of both theology and psychology, and structural intersectionality.

Faculty share in teaching and advising across various divinity degrees (MDiv, MTS, ThM, DMin), which prepare students for ministry and public leadership, and the Graduate Department of Religion degrees (MA, PhD), which prepare students for teaching and research. The successful candidate will be prepared to teach an introductory course in pastoral theology and care and will serve especially the following concentrations with the Divinity curriculum: Chaplaincy, and Pastoral and Prophetic Congregational Leadership. Appointed faculty will join the Religion, Psychology, and Culture area of Vanderbilt’s Graduate Department of Religion.

We are looking for a rising scholar with a significant agenda for Latinx research and publication, with special attention to gender and feminism in the disciplinary areas indicated; a deep knowledge of Latinx Christianity and participation in the lived experience of Latinx communities; familiarity with ethnographic or empirical research; an ability to teach a wide variety of students; and an interest in working with other University departments and programs such as the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, and the Vanderbilt Latina/o Studies and Latin American Studies Programs.
