The Network
Systems Science & Advanced Computing (NSSAC) Division of the
Biocomplexity Institute & Initiative at the University of
Virginia (BII) is seeking motivated, enthusiastic, self-driven
candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Associate Position. The
incumbent will join our innovative NSF-funded Virtual Organization
for Computing Research in Pandemic Preparedness and Resilience
(VO), a new three-year pandemic response research roadmap project.
As a member of the VO team, the incumbent will have a unique
opportunity to explore the policy dimensions of computing in
response to pandemic research, develop expertise in new areas at
the science-policy interface, help facilitate the creation and
promulgation of a research roadmap, and contribute to our ongoing
activities.
As an integral part of our team, the Postdoctoral
Research Associate will aid in the development, design, and
implementation of the dissemination of resources for pandemic
research projects around the world. The successful candidate will
manage the production, writing, and editing of print and online
materials under the supervision of expert principal investigators.
Additional responsibilities include participating in unique
learning and professional development experiences including the
creation of themes for the research roadmap, the organization of
workshops and other meetings, and the facilitation of access to the
data sets and codes from different NSF CISE RAPID projects. Most
importantly, the incumbent will help to coordinate the
collaboration of government agencies, industries, and
multidisciplinary researchers to understand and combat global
pandemics.
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will have the
opportunity to work closely with the VO team, steering committee
members, and other subject matter experts by facilitating
interactions with working groups, executing workshops and working
meetings, and performing independent literature research to ensure
the best expertise is brought to bear in material development. The
successful candidate will gain experience in effective engagement
and project management with the research community and focus on
advancing research programs and opportunities across pandemic
response computing.
