Position Title & Description: Associate Professor or Professor – Beef Cattle Research and Extension. This is a nine-month, tenure track or tenured appointment (80% Extension, 20% research, position) with two months of summer salary (11.111% per month) guaranteed in the Department of Animal and Dairy Science (ADS) ads.caes.uga.edu in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia. The position will be located at the UGA Tifton Campus. The UGA Tifton Campus lies in the heart of south Georgia agriculture. It’s the home of the Coastal Plain Experiment Station.

Major Responsibilities: This appointment will be for a tenure track or tenured, animal science position in the Department of Animal & Dairy Science. This is an academic year (nine-month) appointment that is 80% Extension and 20% research. In this nine-month appointment, two months of summer salary are guaranteed as long as the Extension appointment is maintained with the ability to generate an additional month of summer salary from generated funds. The individual is expected to develop and provide leadership for a relevant nationally/internationally recognized beef cattle Extension  and research program. Extension activities include interaction with county agents and other scientists in developing a state-of-the-art information/technology transfer program for the Georgia Beef Industry. The position will direct the Tifton Bull Evaluation Center and Heifer Evaluation and Reproductive Development (HERD) Program. Research activities will be determined based on the successful candidate’s area of expertise, but emphasis will be placed on an externally funded, applied research program. This faculty member will serve as a resource on beef production for county Extension agents, cattlemen and the agribusiness sector in the state and play an active role in state junior livestock programs.

Qualifications: Candidates should hold a PhD in Animal Science or related field with emphasis in beef cattle. A thorough understanding of current beef cattle practices is required.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. The successful candidate will have to demonstrate that she/he can conduct applied research and develop a relevant beef Extension program. The ability to publish in Extension, scientific and trade publications and the ability to secure extramural funding are expected. To be considered at the rank of Associate Professor, candidates must have at least 5 full years in rank at the Assistant Professor level. To be considered at the rank of Full Professor, candidates must have at least 5 full years in rank at the Associate Professor level. To be eligible for tenure upon appointment, candidates must be appointed as an associate or full professor, have been tenured at a prior institution, and bring a demonstrably national reputation to the institution. Candidates must be approved for tenure upon appointment before hire.

Preferred Qualifications: A thorough understanding of the U.S. beef cattle industry. The successful candidate must demonstrate that she/he can conduct a relevant independent Extension and applied research program. The ability to publish in scientific, Extension, and trade publications and the ability to secure extramural funding are expected.
