Job Summary

This is a one year limited term position and is funded from external sources. Continuation of employment is contingent upon availability of funds.

The School of Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Sciences at Auburn University is seeking candidates for the position of Administrator I, Outreach Programs stationed off-campus at the AU Shellfish Laboratory ( AUSL ) located in Dauphin Island, Alabama. The successful candidate will assist in leading an educational program focused on commercial shellfish aquaculture and associated activities (e.g., seaweed culture). Educational opportunities will be primarily focused on vocational training for students, including high school and undergraduate students, as well as adult learners.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities will include management of the oyster farm in Grand Bay operated by AUSL using best management practices to ensure a safe, productive environment at the farm. This includes boat/vehicle operation and maintenance, gear maintenance, and routine aquaculture production of up to 200,000 oysters per year. Additional duties include upkeep and maintenance of facilities, recruiting and evaluating graduate student applications, administering educational programs, and assessing outcomes.

Level I requires no experience. Salary range for the level I is $31,300 – $52,100.

Level II requires two years of experience in the design, implementation, delivery and management of educational programs/services.
Salary range for the level II is $35,000 – $58,400.

Minimum Skills and Abilities

Excellent written, communication and computer skills are required. The individual selected for the position will work hours that include occasional nights and weekends and in conditions which may be wet/muddy at times, and frequent public speaking. Must be capable of working both independently and in a team environment.
