Job Summary

The Office of Information Technology Enterprise Systems group is seeking applicants for a System Engineer Generalist. The System Engineer Generalist will assist in the day to day operations and maintenance of OIT’s virtual server and storage infrastructure providing support to internal and external customers related to services provided by the Enterprise Systems group. This position will maintain security patches utilizing best practices for all assigned systems, provide troubleshooting and problem resolution as well as assist in planning and execution of software and firmware upgrades and be willing to take on new task and responsibilities as needed to support the infrastructure team. In addition, this position will work closely with both IT personnel and end-users from several different disciplines and backgrounds. After-hours and on-call responsibilities should be expected.

Essential Functions

As a member of the ERP Systems Team, this Specialist will, under limited supervision, perform the duties listed below:

1. Administers and supports deployed University applications and systems including, Banner, Automic Workload Automation Suite (Appworx), Workflow, Luminis, etc. Documents and deploys systems and their integration points. Reviews and performs system testing.
2. Implements and troubleshoots configuration changes, systems, and applications to identify and correct service interruptions and other operational problems. Monitors University systems to ensure service uptime and availability
3. Creates technical solutions to automate, monitor, test, and deploy applications. Designs methods and procedures for collecting, organizing, interpreting, and classifying system and log data for security, performance, and capacity planning needs.
4. Maintains established backup and disaster recovery processes and procedures. Performs regular tests of the high availability, backup, and disaster recovery processes.
5. Deploys new technologies and performs system integration testing.
6. Provides ongoing technical assistance to customers regarding systems and applications. Makes recommendations to stakeholders to increase efficiencies in systems.
7. May provide on-call support for designated systems or services.
8. May perform other related duties as assigned by the IT Manager.

Area of Experience

1. A working knowledge of one or more of the following: Automic Workload Automation Suite (Appworx), Banner, Workflow, Linux, Tomcat, shell scripting, SQL, Oracle Database, SQL Developer, web services/APIs, or F5 Load Balancers.
2. Experience working in software and web server administration, integration skills, and networking and database fundamentals.

The Specialist V starting salaries are typically between $64,000 and $75,000.

Requirements for Additional Job Levels

The Specialist VI position requires a Bachelor’s degree and seven (7) or more years of applicable experience. The starting salaries for this level are typically between $73,000 and $84,000.
