General Description of Position

Under the direction of the Physical Plant Superintendent, the Custodian II is responsible for cleanliness, sanitation and orderliness both inside and outside of areas assigned, and for the removal of waste collected. The Custodian II also makes regular inspections to assure maintenance of cleanliness standards, safe and secure conditions, and performs other maintenance as directed. Functions as a working supervisor that directs and trains custodial staff and student workers, and participates in the regular cleaning and security operations necessary for proper maintenance, safety, and security of an assigned building or group of buildings. This position maintains inventories of cleaning equipment and supplies, and ensures they are properly used and stored.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Delegates duties and assignments to Custodial Staff (Daily) Responsible for informing custodians of their daily cleaning schedule and making schedule changes due to absenteeism or priority changes. On occasion, may operate equipment which may include trucks, automobiles, tractors, mowers, and fork lift.

Performs light/basic preventive maintenance on equipment such as cleaning filters, replacing light bulbs, painting, basic carpentry, etc., using powered and hand tools.
Makes minor repairs using powered and hand tools.

Preps and paints interior and exterior trim, walls, siding and woodwork using powered and hand tools.
Sweeps, mops, waxes, polishes floors and shampoos carpets; washes walls, woodwork windows and venetian blinds; polishes brass and dusts furniture and other articles; cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies; dusts, polishes and mops furniture; empties wastebaskets and outside smoking receptacles.
Picks up liter; sweeps sidewalks and assists in snow removal from walks and access areas.
May be assigned to open and close campus buildings; checks buildings for occupants when locked; may provide escorts to the parking lot for students.

Assist in maintaining campus safety by notifying Safety or Law Enforcement of observations concerns, and by documenting incidents observed on the TIPS reporting system.

Develops information and data to assist in preparation of budgets, projects and other related reports.
Assure that an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment.. develop listing of supplies for the Physical Plant assistant to process. Set-up for College Functions, review and process room requests for special activities.

Set-up and prepare facilities for public and college wide functions. Includes laying down floor covering in Truman Center Gym, arranging tables, chairs, moving bleachers, set up for athletic events, etc.

Supervision Custodial Staff – Supervises all custodial staff, providing schedules of work activities, training, evaluation, and other personnel related functions. Student Worker – Supervise work-study students. Plan activities and duties within their level of expertise

Check and Inspect Buildings; Spot-check buildings to review cleanliness. Review building observations with custodians responsible if additional action needs to be taken.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate or GED .

Minimum of three (3) years experience in the custodial area, of which one (1) year needs to be in a supervisory capacity.

Able to work with cleaning chemicals.

Desired Qualifications

Construction and Carpentry Skills.

Knowledge and ability to use floor burnisher, floor scrubber, and gym floor resurfacing.

Salary

$17.61/hr
