Job Summary
The Business Analyst I acts as an intermediary between the stakeholders and Information Technology Services working with IT project teams and clients to collect, clarify, and translate business requirements into documentation and conceptual design using appropriate tools and models from which applications and solutions are developed. The Business Analyst I is an active thought partner and application visionary that shapes the technology demand throughout the university.
Job Description
Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
Collaborates with executive and senior leaders to create and maintain an operating plan to achieve the strategic vision and operating platform that defines the people, processes, tools, and technology.
Partners with business and technology partners to elicit, analyze, translate, and document business requirements into technical requirements.
Analyzes, documents, and tests program development, logic, process flows and specifications.
Develops technical documentation (designs, specifications, processes, workflows) and communications. Documents user manuals to describe application installation and operating procedures.
Partners with business partners to conduct user acceptance testing.
Develops new techniques and procedures to enhance university business processes.
Reviews progress, evaluates results, recommends new processes, and promotes best practices.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Additional Job Description
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in computer information systems or a related field.
Three years of professional full-time relevant experience.
Experience in writing software requirements and test specifications.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of experience working with database systems.
Experience in higher education.
Experience with project management, production support, and customer service.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of basic system engineering, object-oriented design, information risk and security guidelines, and architecture standards.
Knowledge of the various software development lifecycles (e.g. Agile, RUP, and Waterfall).
Strong analytical skills applied to understanding business functionality and translating them into application requirements.
Advanced interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
Skill in mapping, analyzing and re-engineering business processes in an organization of considerable size, complexity with diverse customer needs.
Ability to take initiative to plan, organize, coordinate and perform work in various situations when numerous and diverse demands are involved.
Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a diverse community and willing to contribute to a team effort.
Ability to interact in a professional manner with a diverse group of staff, faculty, students, and the community in a service-oriented environment.
Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
Ability to create modeling techniques: Object Orientation analysis, UML (e.g. Use Cases, Activity Diagrams).
