Portland Community College is seeking a Director of Student Life and Leadership for the Southeast Campus.
Student Life is a gathering place that provides services and resources and that fosters the creation of lifelong learners by delivering an array of cultural, educational, social, and recreational programs and events. The Director of Student Life and Leadership would ensure that these student-sponsored programs and events demonstrate a balanced approach in terms of education, cultural competency and community building. In addition, the position is responsible for the strategic leadership and day-to-day operations of the Student Life and Leadership Program at Southeast campus and within the district, including advising student government and its leaders and mentoring students throughout the year. This position also includes advocacy for students in the governance process, student rights, freedoms, and responsibilities, school policies, and state laws affecting students.

An extremely important part of this role at PCC is to bring a student-centered priority and advocacy, a passion for inspiring learning, and an understanding of the unique aspects of the needs of community college students, to the administration of these critical programs. You will utilize your knowledge of current trends and best practices on a daily basis, coupled with a deep understanding of the value of diversity and intercultural competency, and a strong social justice lens, to impact the lives and equitable success of our students.

Candidate Profile

These qualifications, skills and abilities are critical for success in this position.
Throughout the screening process, you will be evaluated based on the demonstration of these qualifications.

  • Experience serving in a professional leadership role within Student Government and/or Student Life and Leadership
  • Experience supervising professional staff and students, including hiring, performance management and strengths-based staff, team, and leadership development
  • Demonstrated experience with large-scale budget management and equity-based budget prioritization, including a Student Activity Fee budget
  • Demonstrated understanding of the student basic needs that exist within a Community College and experience with direct student support (i.e. emergency grants/funds, food pantries, transportation, etc.)
  • Demonstrated willingness to hold senior level responsibilities, including program/project management and planning, development of program outcomes and assessment, while continuing to provide hands on, direct services to students and the navigation of college policies and processes
  • Can demonstrate taking specific actions to show a commitment to social justice, culturally responsive and trauma informed practices, utilization of an equity lens, and inclusion of students, staff, and faculty from a broad spectrum of identities and lived experiences, and through the lens of Student Governance and Student Leadership Programs
  • Training and experience with crisis management and response (i.e. campus emergencies, student conduct and crisis situations)


Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, your application must demonstrate these minimum qualifications. (Experience is calculated based on the start and end dates you provide multiplied by the number of hours per week worked).

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Adult Education, a Social Science discipline, Counseling or related area. ( Note : Relevant experience may substitute for the degree requirement on a year-for-year basis)
  • Three years of progressively responsible experience related to area of assignment, including two years of lead or supervisory experience ( Note: TO QUALIFY your application must display two years of lead or supervisory experience. You will be asked to describe this experience during the application process.)
    • Successful completion of PCC LEAD Academy or a comparable external leadership training program may substitute for up to 6 months of lead or supervisory experience.


Position Grade J Starting Salary Expectations Minimum $64,361 to range mid-point of $78,840. Placement generally will not exceed the mid-point, based on qualifications, experience and internal equity. Position Grade Salary Range $64361 to $93322 Annual Salary FTE 1 PCC Benefits

PCC offers a comprehensive benefit package designed to provide employees and their families, including domestic partners, with access to a broad range of benefit options. PCC currently fully funds the Oregon Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP) pension and contributes an additional 6% into the employee's Individual Account Program under PERS/OPSRP. After one year of management or confidential service, PCC also provides a 2% contribution to a 403(b) account for eligible management and confidential personnel. PCC offers a tax deferred annuity program and a deferred compensation program where employees may save additional pre-tax dollars for retirement.

Additionally, PCC provides a tuition waiver for you, your spouse/domestic partner, and dependent children under 24 years of age, as well as partial tuition reimbursement for full-time employees at other accredited institutions.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements Work is generally performed in an office environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. No special coordination beyond that used for normal mobility and handling of everyday objects and materials is needed to perform the job satisfactorily. This position requires occasional lifting of office supplies, training materials and computer equipment. Frequent travel between campuses is required and requires occasional out of district travel.
