Job Summary:

This Assistant Professor position is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Psychology Department, which includes an ABAI-accredited master's program and ABAI-verified course sequence. This position requires teaching undergraduates and graduates in behavior analysis, developing research programs and disseminating results, and serving the university, profession, and community. Provision of behavior analytic services to the local community through outside funding sources is also possible in collaboration with the JSU Center for Behavioral Studies.



Essential Functions:

• Teaching graduate- and undergraduate-level courses in behavior analysis that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students and are consistent with the university mission, SACS accreditation, ABAI accreditation, ABAI verified course sequence standards, and State study and curriculum guides
• Assessing students’ abilities as related to desired educational outcomes in order to maximize student achievement
• Communicating regularly with students (either in writing or orally) in regard to class expectations and student progress, including maintaining and submitting appropriate records and reports requested by the university
• Ensuring that the classroom and other educational environments are safe and conducive to learning, which may include managing student behavior in the classroom or in other campus locations
• Advising and mentoring students
• Assisting university personnel in planning effective instructional goals, outcomes, assessment methods, and curriculum
• Conducting high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarly activities that meet at least one of the four categories of scholarship defined by the Boyer model (Glassick, Huber, & Maeroff, 1997)
• Engaging in professional, university (departmental and university-wide committees), and community service
• Participating in professional development activities including faculty meetings, employee trainings, Faculty Commons events, and continuing education events offered by the profession
• Belonging to professional associations within the area of concentration and participating in their events and governance
• Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with students and colleagues
• Communicating effectively and skillfully both orally and in writing
• Fulfilling faculty responsibilities as stated in institutional and departmental policies
• Performing other duties as assigned by the department head or dean
• Participating in extracurricular activities (e.g., commencement, Preview Day, Accepted Student Day)

Required Minimum Qualifications:

• Ph.D. or ABD in Psychology or related field with coursework and training in behavior analysis (if ABD, the successful candidate will be hired at the rank of instructor pending receipt of degree; this time will not count toward tenure and promotion)
• Certified or certification-eligible as a behavior analyst through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board®
