Content Manager, Centers for Civic Impact

General Summary/Purpose:

Johns Hopkins University Centers for Civic Impact seeks a Content Manager responsible for creating impactful content that effectively communicates the work being done by Civic Impact and its associated centers,as well ascontributing to content and managing the editorial calendar for the soon-to-be-launched Bloomberg Cities Network.The Content Manager willconceptualize and create or supervise the creation ofa variety of writing deliverables in the appropriate style to meet the strategic and tactical goals of eachcontent streamand its target audience.

Our ideal candidate will also have strong research skills and an enthusiasm for helping the public sector become more evidence informed. This person is an effective writer, creative and strategic thinker, and must be able to work on several high priority projects concurrently with minimal supervision.

This position reports toCivic Impact’sKnowledge Officer and works closely with the Deputy Directorand marketing team.

Civic Impact is committed to working with communities that are focused on ending legacies of structural, entrenched racism and oppression. The Content Manager must be willing to think about reimagined government, knowledge, and engagement models through the lens of dismantling these legacies.

Specific Duties:

  • Develop and plan all Civic Impact media content based on audience requirements.
  • Ensure a high level of quality and accuracy in articles, data visualizations, and other Civic Impact produced materials.
  • Prepare and maintain editorial calendars and oversee the implementation of all distribution channels.
  • Maintain an effective editorial workflow and oversee the production of high quality content.
  • Supervise all stages of publication across all Civic Impact distribution channels.
  • Support the creation of and write fora variety of media and formats such as blog posts, case studies, event support, and promotional messaging.
  • Work collaboratively with the Knowledge Officer and other Civic Impact staff to createpractical and actionable resources which specifically support technical assistance, training,thetranslation of academic research, and other areas of the Centers’ expertise.
  • Develop content which resonates with Civic Impact’s audience of of public sector staff and aligns to the Center’s tone and voice.
  • Coordinate with vendors and external stakeholders who contribute to the content created for Civic Impact operated media platforms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years related experience. Writing samples may be required.
  • No equivalency.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years related experience in writing and research.
  • Experience writing about public policy or data usage, especially for a non-technical audience.
  • Experience using project management and collaboration tools such as Slack.

    Familiarity with data usage in the public sector. Ability to translate data and research into comprehensible content for a broad audience.

  • High proficiency in WordPress, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, project management software, and virtual meeting platforms.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
