Knowledge Management Associate, Centers for Civic Impact

General Summary/Purpose:

Johns Hopkins University Centers for Civic Impact seek a Knowledge Management Associate. The Associate will support the Civic Impact Knowledge Officer in working closely with all Civic Impact teams in order to improve the quality, diversity, and discoverability of Civic Impact’s materials documenting best practices for government data use.

To meet our mission to help governments use data to make more informed, effective decisions to improve people’s lives, the Centers for Civic Impact must create, support, and share a wide range of knowledge products within the Centers, as well as with external stakeholders. The Knowledge Management program at Civic Impact is responsible for maximizing the Centers’ intellectual capital. To be successful in this role, the Knowledge Management Associate must have a solid understanding of how data is used by governments, Civic Impact’s delivery methods, and informational software tools. The selected candidate must also be able to successfully advocate for knowledge management across the organization and motivate staff. across the four Civic Impact units: Civic Impact, GovEx, GovEx Academy, and the Center for Applied Public Research.

The Knowledge Management Associate must be willing to think about reimagined government, knowledge, and engagement models through the lens of dismantling these legacies.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Research existing materials, such as how-to guides, slide decks, project reports, learner assessments, and articles, both internally and externally created, to assemble a portfolio on a given topic.
  • Develop those materials from draft to final product, including reviewing the accuracy and saliency of these materials with subject matter experts.
  • Collaborate with Civic Impact’s marketing and technology teams to ensure the reliable distribution of knowledge materials.
  • Support the design of materials for their aesthetic appeal and readability.
  • Liaise with Civic Impact staff to learn about their content needs, and to circulate both draft and final materials.
  • Advise on the structure of content framework.
  • Support and implement on a knowledge management strategic plan.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Three years related experience. Writing samples may be required.
  • No equivalency

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in related discipline, preferred

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong proficiency with Google Suite and graphic design software.
  • Familiarity using data visualization programs, such as Tableau.
  • Familiarity with data practices in the public sector.
  • Ability to design and develop documents from start to finish, including copywriting and graphic elements.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform a range of standard and technical assignments to meet time-critical tasks and resolve recurring problems.
  • Commitment to a collegial workplace.
  • Capacity to work independently in a results-oriented environment; being both flexible and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:

  • Credential in technical writing, library science, or similar preferred.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
