Position Summary:

Working in conjunction with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UWSMPH) Student Services Office and the Office of Multicultural Affairs, the Diversity, Equity & Inclusivity Student Services Coordinator will promote recruitment, retention, promotion, career development, enrichment and global success of Black and other Under-represented in Medicine (URM) professional degree learners. URM students face unique challenges in pursuing and completing training in health professions degree programs. The Enrichment Counselor will work closely with students through all 4 years of the MD curriculum to support them through individual and group advising as well as program development and implementation.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

A Master's degree or higher required in higher education, educational administration, psychology, social work, counseling, public health or other related discipline.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Three or more years of post-degree experience working in a university, academic, college, or other higher education setting in areas involving programmatic development, program management, student services, advising and counseling, admissions, or recruitment. The ideal applicant will have experience developing and delivering multicultural programs and underrepresented learner enrichment and support activities The ideal applicant will be uniquely qualified to support Black and other Underrepresented in Medicine (URM) professional degree learners based on direct, first-hand experience with educational challenges and barriers faced by URM learners. The preferred applicant will have experience advising and counseling students. It is preferred that applicant have experience working directly with medical students. In addition, experience dealing with issues affecting minority populations in an academic setting and/or health care setting are required. Finally, the successful candidate will possess excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.

Other requirements:
-Available and accessible on- and off-site to best meet the needs of learners, staff, and faculty including limited early evening or weekend hours
-Travel to clinical education sites within the state of Wisconsin as requested on occasion to meet with students who are engaged in educational programs at health systems outside of Madison.
