NATURE OF WORK:

The Director of Academic Support Services is responsible for comprehensive academic support services programming that provide students with additional learning assistance. This person supervises and coordinates academic support services such as tutoring, Supplemental instruction, writing lab, math labs, and other student academic learning services. The director will also work closely with success coaches and faculty advisors to ensure intervention efforts are delivered to students experiencing academic distress.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, the Director will work closely with faculty, academic leaders and Enrollment Management teams to coordinate and design student success initiatives that are aligned with the university strategic plan.
The following academic and learning support initiatives are under the supervision of the Director of Academic Support Services: First-Year Experience (including ASU1101), Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Writing Center, Math Center.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

 *At least five years' experience in a college or university related directly to academic support/success initiatives.
*Experience working with students with diverse backgrounds/life experiences.
*Experience with student retention and assessment programs and workshops.
*Master's degree required.
*Ability to effectively digitally communicate through new media, including social network sites (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram)
*Excellent computer skills and proficiency with a variety of computer applications i.e. Word, Excel, Google Tools, etc.
*Supervisory experience.  

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLE OF WORK:

*Supervise and manage the operations of the Academic Support Services unit. Hire, train, and supervise peer tutors, embedded tutors, math center staff, writing center staff and FYE Coordinator.
*Coordinate and schedule tutoring, supplemental instruction and embedded tutors.
*Work closely with the QEP, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management to develop cross-functional partnerships to support and implement retention and student success initiatives. This includes a concerted collaboration with stakeholders to enhance student retention, Satisfactory Academic Progress SAP) and graduation rates.
*Develop and implement processes for academic support services such as mandatory learning support for students in developmental-level and gateway courses.
*Inform program development based on empirical evidence of best practices in the field. For example, the Director may determine whether one-on-one tutoring, supplemental instruction, virtual tutoring, workshops, and/or other approaches will best support student success.
*Maintain the unit budget
*Build and manage website content
*Perform additional related duties as assigned.
