General Description of Position

Under the general supervision of the Administrative Director, Registration and Records, the Registration Technician is responsible for transfer of credit, high school registration process, career academy registration and maintenance of on-line student registration set up. Duties include: evaluation and posting of transfer and other advanced placement credit to student transcripts, coordination of registration process for specialized groups of students. Serves as a member of the Registration Team.

1. Provide Registration Services.
Provide registration services for students, including undeclared, Continuing Education, high school, dual credit and career academy students.

2. Maintain and update student records.
Update student information, which includes address change, contact information, demographics and academic records.

3. Assist with College and departmental reports and projects.
Assist with reports in the Registration department and from other departments. Respond to requests from external agencies and organizations when appropriate.

4. Maintain Course Equivalency information.
Work with area colleges and outside entities to maintain a course equivalency list within SCC’s student information system ( SIS ). Ensure accuracy and consistency in the transfer credit evaluation process. Update equivalencies on an annual basis to reflect course changes at Southeast Community College and/or other colleges

5. Evaluate transfer credit.
Evaluate credits from other accredited post-secondary institutions to determine the applicability of coursework towards SCC programs. Coordinate the transfer of program specific courses with instructional divisions. Evaluate military credits using the ACE guides as a reference.

6. Update Degree Audit and course prerequisite.
Review catalog changes each year and make necessary changes to course prerequisites and degree audits within Colleague.

7. Record advanced standing credit to student records.
Record transfer of credit, credit by waiver and pass by exam credit to student transcripts. Determine a student’s eligibility for academic bankruptcy and record the bankruptcy to the student’s academic transcript.

8. Provide Customer Service for the Registration/Records Office.
Answer questions related to records and the registration process.

9. Uphold institutional responsibilities to students.
Maintain and protect student records in accordance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures including FERPA guidelines.

10. Participate on the Registration Team.
Serve as member of the Registration Team to assist in the formulation and revision of registration and records processes and procedures. Serve as backup for other Registration positions within the department.

11. Promote/Support Diversity.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Associate Degree or two (2) years of college in Business Administration, Office Professional, Computer Information Technology or related field.
2. One (1) year office work experience.

Desired Qualifications

1. Experience in student services office at a post-secondary level, especially in the registration and records office.
2. Knowledge of and experience with personal computers and related software.
