The Indiana University School of Public Health‐Bloomington (SPH‐B) invites national applications for the position of Associate Dean for Research and Tenured Full Professor.  Individuals are sought who will contribute multidisciplinary perspectives, conceptual and methodological diversity, and research leadership and mentoring strengths to the School’s efforts toward academic excellence in research. Located on the Flagship Campus of the Indiana University system, SPH-B has over 200 faculty in five departments. Our research grant funding has doubled in the last 12 months alone, we have hired over 30 new tenure-track faculty in the last 3 years ,and we have quadrupled our research administration team’s FTEs.  Indiana University is a member of the prestigious Association of American Universities (AAU) and boasts numerous resources available to SPH-B faculty. This 12‐month appointment would ideally start July 1, 2021 although an earlier hire date is possible. Responsibilities: The Associate Dean for Research works with the Dean and Executive Associate Dean to provide inspiration and administrative leadership to enhance and expand the research portfolio of the SPH‐B. It is anticipated that the activities associated with the Associate Dean position will take approximately 50% effort with that the remaining 50% effort to be spent on the individual’s externally funded research portfolio and some teaching. The Associate Dean is responsible for facilitating individual research programs as well as inter-disciplinary and inter-departmental research projects. The Associate Dean for Research will lead the Grant Administration office as well as the Assistant Deans of Research to promote research excellence and facilitate research opportunities for all faculty in the SPH-B.  This position also involves serving as the School’s primary research officer, Dean’s liaison to the Vice-Provost for Research, and duties related to advancing the research mission of the SPH‐B.  It is expected that the successful candidate will work closely with the dean to further the school’s goals and research mission.

Qualifications: Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in a disciplinary area covered by the School of Public Health‐Bloomington. Candidates must also demonstrate a record of scholarly achievement appropriate for a senior career level, including major extramurally funded research grants and research training grants (e.g., T32s) as a principal investigator, especially from federal agencies such as NIH, NSF, CDC, AHRQ, PCORI, EPA, HRSA, DOD, and USDA; current extramural funding; the ability to collaborate across disciplines; and a positive team spirit.  Candidates are expected to reside in Bloomington Indiana to permit full engagement with the department, school, campus, and community. Outstanding organizational and communication skills are needed as is a strong work ethic and ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Finally, recent experience in a leadership and/or administrative role would be beneficial.
