Faculty Tenure- Track- Assistant Professor- Chemistry

Summary:
Utah Valley University invites qualified candidates to apply for a tenure track position within the Department of Chemistry. This position will begin August 2021. Candidates must have a Doctorate in Chemistry, Chemical Education, or a related chemical discipline, and a strong commitment to effective teaching methods. Teaching responsibilities include three or four courses in general chemistry and/or other areas within the applicant's area of expertise as needed by the department. Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience teaching organic chemistry and/or biochemistry courses at the university level. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an undergraduate research program that results in peer-reviewed publications. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to promote successful growth of the department and serve on department, college, and university committees as fitting a tenure-track position.
Applicants with experience and interest in development and teaching hybrid and online chemistry courses are especially encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications:
Graduation from an accredited institution with a doctorate in chemistry or chemical education or related chemical discipline. Evidence of experience teaching chemistry to undergraduate students.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
● Demonstrable knowledge of the theory and practice of chemical education, analytical, physical, organic, biological and/or inorganic chemistry, and research methods in their field of expertise.
● Demonstrable skill in incorporating evidence based pedagogy; for example the use of active learning techniques, in classroom and online environments.
● Demonstrable abilities to develop curricula and teach courses, communicate in written and verbal form, work collaboratively with faculty, staff and students.
● Demonstrable ability and desire to mentor undergraduate student research.


Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrate strong knowledge of active learning pedagogies and an established record of incorporation of those techniques in the classroom (especially General Chemistry). Experience or strategies for teaching at open-enrollment institutions. Publication record that indicates successful use of research methods and mentorship of undergraduates.


Physical Requirements:
May have the opportunity to teach evening or weekend classes and at satellite campuses (negotiable).
