DIRECTOR FOR ADMISSIONS AND ENROLLMENT

PUNAHOU SCHOOL

Honolulu, Hawai‘i

Punahou School seeks an innovative, experienced admissions leader and strategist to serve as its Director for Admissions and Enrollment. The Director will join one of the world’s leading independent schools as it thoughtfully and intentionally transitions from a traditional admissions structure to a more comprehensive enrollment management strategy. This next Director will promote a data-driven, forward-looking approach to admissions and financial aid, facilitating critical discussions about enrollment strategies essential to its mission and future.

Situated on the Hawaiian island of O‘ahu, Punahou is the largest independent K-12 school in the United States on a single campus, with 3,750 students and nearly 30,000 alumni worldwide. It traces its founding in 1841 to the historical and cultural engagement of Native Hawaiians and Congregationalist missionaries, and the rich educational heritage that evolved over time with the arrival of peoples from around the world who attended, supported, and found a home at the School. Punahou is a leader in experiential, hands-on learning, with an emphasis on producing socially responsible, global citizens committed to lifelong growth. The School has enjoyed strong and stable leadership, enabling it to thrive in an increasingly competitive landscape with steady enrollment numbers and a robust financial outlook.

A member of the senior leadership team and a direct report to the President, the Director for Admissions and Enrollment will develop a cohesive enrollment management strategy through market analysis, effective communications, and the careful stewardship of prospective students and families through the application, admission, and retention process. The Director will ensure the continued excellence of Punahou’s student body through recruitment and enrollment practices that consider the School’s core values and broad-based ambitions. Such values include a commitment to increase the socioeconomic diversity of the School, and to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion more widely. Partnering with administrative leaders, faculty, staff, students, and alumni, the Director will work collaboratively across campus to enhance the School’s approach to the full enrollment lifecycle.

The successful candidate must bring demonstrated success in admissions and financial aid management. The Director must possess exceptional analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills; the ability to synthesize and present complex enrollment data in a clear, concise, and understandable manner; a record of strong mentorship; the skills needed to develop an inclusive, culturally competent admissions approach; and the emotional intelligence to forge a new path in an engaged and passionate school community. Significant experience in education, either at the secondary school level or in higher education, is essential, as is a resonance with Hawaiian culture and the mission of Punahou School.

Punahou School has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist in this recruitment. All inquiries, nominations, referrals, and applications (resumes and letters of interest) should be submitted electronically to Sheryl Ash and Berkley Burke at www.imsearch.com/7569.

Punahou School, in accordance with state and federal laws, does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, religion, color, sex, national origin, ancestry, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, or other grounds protected under state or federal equal employment opportunity laws or regulations.
