The Department of Kinesiology at The University of Texas Permian Basin seeks a dynamic and innovative faculty to serve as Academic Chair for its undergraduate and graduate programs. This is a nine-month, tenured position at the rank of associate or full professor. The department seeks a candidate with demonstrated leadership, organizational, and communication skills to lead in advancing the department’s current curricula, program evaluation, research productivity, and enrollment management. The candidate must be committed to student success, teaching excellence, and to an active research agenda involving kinesiology graduate students.

This position will begin in the 2021-2022 academic year.

• Serve as Academic Chair of the Kinesiology Department
• Teach courses in Graduate and/or Undergraduate programs based on need and specialization • Mentor and support graduate students in health science, human performance and in other relevant areas of research leading to nationally/internationally refereed publications and presentations • Provide academic advising to students
• Engage in service to the department, college, university, and profession • Engage in recruitment of students to graduate and undergraduate programs • Maintain day-to-day operation of the department, conduct a yearly program evaluation, and perform administrative duties involving the current and new programs

Required Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate (e.g., PhD, EdD, ScD) from a regionally accredited institution in a human movement science-based discipline
• Leadership/supervision/management experience
• Demonstrated record of research and external funding
• Experience in curriculum development and program evaluation
• Experience in University teaching

Preferred Qualifications:

• Kinesiology program administration experience
• Specialization in biomechanics or sport psychology is strongly preferred
• Secondary area of teaching expertise to serve departmental needs
• Evidence of mentoring student research
• Evidence of professional service at state, regional, national, and/or international level
• Evidence of quality instruction
• Experience teaching in an on-line format

The Department of Kinesiology is an academic unit within the College of Health Sciences and Human Performance. The Kinesiology Department is located in the J. Kirk Edwards Family Human Performance Center (opened fall 2020). In addition to the academic office suites, there are four dedicated clinical laboratories including an exercise physiology lab, a sport and exercise psychology lab, an athletic training lab, and a biomechanics lab; along with two large classrooms.
