The Department of Oncology is seeking a Infusion Nurse to work at Johns Hopkins Greenspring location.

The Infusion nurse is responsible:

  • Coordinating care for assigned patients to promote the achievement of clinical outcomes
  • Providing direct patient care based on the nursing process and mentors and manages others to promote quality and excellence of care
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary health care team to optimize team performance
  • Promoting improvements in treatment area processes and cost effective use of resources
  • Being accountable for own decisions regarding patient care
  • Identifying impending changes in patient condition and individual performance issues
  • Analyzing patient care data to deliver and evaluate care
  • May assume unit management functions as designated by the Assist nurse manager
  • May focus in the area of clinical practice, education or administration
  • Knowledge of nursing process; social, behavioral and physical sciences; nursing research and application; leadership and management as normally acquired through completion of bachelors program in nursing
  • Knowledge of current health care environment

  • Working knowledge of Epic and Epic’s Beacon ordering system
  • Ability to analyze data to synthesize and summarize information and make judgments regarding patient care
  • Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality patient care
  • Ability to document legibly using a writing instrument
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard to input and obtain data
  • CPR and AED certified
  • Ability to properly conduct general physiologic monitoring and patient care equipment such as an EKG.
  • Accountable authority for decisions regarding patient care; may act in absence of assist nurse manager
  • Ability to analyze data to synthesize and summarize information and to make judgment regarding patient care
  • Highly effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships that foster optimal quality patient care
  • Ability to use a computer keyboard to input and obtain data
  • Ability to document legibly using a writing instrument

Minimum Qualifications (mandatory):

  • Registered nurse licensure in the State of Maryland or state where practicing required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related discipline preferred
  • Oncology nursing experience preferred
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment. Acceptable completion of the JHH or BMC credentialing process is required within two weeks of start date.

Work Conditions:

  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, radiation and pharmacological agents
  • Work requires standing and or walking for extended periods of time
  • Lifting and or positioning patients and transporting wheelchairs, beds and relatedequipment
  • Work requires manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to perform patient care procedures
  • Work may require contact with aggressive and or combative patients
  • Employees in this position will be required to adhere to work availability and scheduling requirements
  • May require overtime or on call work

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
