The University of Southern Maine is seeking applicants for the full-time position as Grants and Contracts Administrator; an administrative professional, who wants to bring their accounting/finance abilities and technical and analytical expertise to support Principal Investigators and Staff involved in exciting and meaningful externally funded projects in support of University grants and, often Cutler Institute grants:

As part of research administration, the Grants & Contract Administrator works within a team of 5 research administrators that are each assigned a portfolio of grants/contracts and is responsible for a broad range of grant accounting functions and administrative activities from proposal development through contract award and project creation through final closeout/audit.


Within their portfolio, they partner with Principal Investigators to develop project budgets and assist with financial projections required for efficient contract management.  The Grant Administrator is also responsible for all project invoicing and financial reporting, as well as providing oversight to ensure compliance with all applicable University, Sponsor, and Federal guidelines. Qualified applicants must demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and ability to provide high quality customer service within an environment of frequently changing, deadline driven priorities.

  • Bachelor’s degree and four years relevant experience or Master’s degree and two years of increasingly responsible experience, or a combination of equivalent experience and education.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in spreadsheet, database, and word-processing applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a team environment, and provide customer service to internal and external customers at all levels.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and organized manner.
  • Ability to work independently and balance multiple priorities.


Other Information:

Salary:  $50,000 - $52,000
