Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Clinical Associate Professor/Clinical Assistant Professor in the Emergency Medicine Unit of the LKS Faculty of Medicine (Ref.: 502276), to commence as soon as possible on a four-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second four-year fixed-term contract, subject to satisfactory performance.

HKUMed is seeking exceptional candidates to join a team of talented, ambitious and diverse professionals pioneering the development of an academic Department of Emergency Medicine. The aim is to address some of the grand challenges in medical science in emergency medicine. Cross-disciplinary clinical and non-clinical scientists are sought to enhance the breadth and depth of emergency medicine research into acute illness, injury and emergency health service delivery.

Applicants should possess a medical qualification registrable with the Medical Council of Hong Kong, and a higher professional qualification of Specialty Fellowship of the relevant Hong Kong colleges under the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine or equivalent. They should have a strong commitment to, and demonstrated excellence in, teaching medical students and training residents, and the capacity to contribute to undergraduate curriculum development. Applicants should also demonstrate strong commitment to research and publications, and possess excellent clinical skills. For Clinical Associate Professor level, applicants should have proven ability in conducting independent quality research and publication in international journals with evidence of local/national recognition for their scholarship and professional expertise. Those who are keen to pursue a Ph.D. or MD degree will be considered favourably. Direct communication with patients is required and the languages employed are Cantonese, Putonghua and English.

The appointee will teach, organize and develop undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, conduct high-quality scholarly research, provide clinical service and patient care at the University's teaching hospitals, and contribute to administrative duties in the Unit and the Faculty. He/She may also be required to assist in the development of the HKU-Shenzhen Hospital. Applicants who have responded to the previous advertisement (Ref.: 501791) need not re-apply.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. A monthly cash allowance will be offered to the successful candidate. Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
