Open Rank Professor in Rehabilitation Counseling
The College of Education at the University of Iowa is making a major investment in faculty hires to create a group of faculty who will work together to address critical rehabilitation and vocational issues impacting consumers and employers. Faculty in several academic programs (e.g., special education, school psychology, counseling psychology, school counseling, and clinical mental health counseling) will work with interdisciplinary teams of researchers and practitioners to create and implement evidence-based approaches to promote the empowerment and employment of persons with disabilities.
The Department of Rehabilitation and Counselor Education at the University of Iowa invites applications for one, tenure-track, academic year faculty position in the Rehabilitation Counseling Program.
The successful candidate for the position will begin August 2021. We seek professionals with evidence of significant accomplishments in research that impacts the employment of youth and adults who have a disability. This individual should have demonstrated:
- the ability to produce empirically driven and practically relevant research in Employment and/or Rehabilitation Counseling.
- skills in effective teaching and clinical supervision.
- a commitment to professional service that advances the research, training, and clinical work intended to improve the lives of persons with disabilities; and
- a commitment to the counseling profession as demonstrated by, for example, conference presentations, lectures, and professional memberships.
This position requires an earned doctorate in Rehabilitation Counselor Education, Counselor Education and Supervision, or a doctorate in a related field plus employment as a full-time faculty member in a CACREP-accredited Counselor Education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013 or taught in a CORE accredited program prior to January 1, 2018
The successful candidate will join a research and training partnership with Counselor Education and Supervision, School Counseling, and Clinical Mental Health Counseling Programs to teach graduate-level courses. The program, following the College of Education trends, has strong department, college, university, and clinical community support, and is committed to an environment that values diversity and collegiality. The preferred candidate will have a strong commitment to a scientist-practitioner philosophy and will be experienced in implementation of CACREP accreditation standards in Rehabilitation Counseling, and (or a committed to learn) Counselor Education and Supervision, School Counseling, and Clinical Mental Health Counseling Programs.
By August 2021, prospective candidates must have one of the following:
- Earned doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision from a CACREP accredited program, or
- Earned doctorate in Rehabilitation or closely related field, if not CACREP accredited, have had employment as a full-time faculty member in a CACREP accredited Counselor Education program for a minimum of one full academic year before January 1, 2018.
- Concentration or specialization in Rehabilitation, Vocational, or Career Counseling.
- Evidence of or potential for scholarly productivity, including publications in recognized rehabilitation, vocational, disability, counseling, career development, counselor education, or related journals.
- Evidence of or potential for attracting external funding.
- Experience in teaching undergraduate/graduate courses and supervising students in practica/internships.
- Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively and with diverse populations.
- Success in procuring competitive national funding for training, employment, research, and/or implementation of interventions.
- Experience teaching, supervising, and coordinating in a CACREP-accredited graduate program.
- Experience in State / Federal / Tribal, or Veteran Administration, or corrections, or forensic rehabilitation service delivery.
- Experience with applied clinical research.
- Be a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), or be eligible and obtain CRC credential within 1 year of hire.
Duties will include:
- Serving as a core faculty member in the Master’s and doctoral programs in Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Mental Health, School Counseling and the Counselor Education and Supervision Programs,
- Teaching courses in the Rehabilitation Counseling Program and Rehabilitation and Counselor Education Department in areas consistent with the candidate’s interests and department needs,
- Conducting a program of research and publication in an area of specialization,
- Seeking and administering external grants for research, training and service,
- Advising students at the master’s and doctoral levels, and
- Supervising doctoral students’ dissertations,
- Develop as a future leader/coordinator of the MA program in Rehabilitation Counseling.
