Associate or Full Professor of Nutrition Education

Position: The Program in Nutrition invites applicants with expertise in nutrition education, nutrition education policy, and/or closely related area to apply for a full-time tenure-track faculty member as the Mary Swartz Rose Professor to teach graduate courses, supervise graduate student research, and conduct a focused program of research promoting equity, access, and education on issues related to food.

Qualifications: The successful applicant will have an earned doctorate in nutrition or a closely related area. The credential as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist is required. The applicant should have a strong record of scholarly accomplishments and demonstrated ability to obtain external funding. In addition, the applicant should demonstrate excellence in teaching graduate courses in nutrition and experience working with and advising masters and doctoral student research. The teaching and research activities of the applicant should directly support the mission of the Program in Nutrition which is: “to prepare the next generation of nutrition professionals to fulfill a variety of entry-level and leadership positions with the goal of integrating research, theory and practice to foster healthful, just, and environmentally-sustainable food choices and active lives for diverse individuals, groups, and communities locally, nationally, and around the world.” Priority for research areas include, but are not limited to, strategies to promote change in behavior, communities and environments, and policies for healthy, just and sustainable food. The successful applicant will also have a strong record of outreach and service at the local, state, and national level. 

Rank: Associate or full professor. The position is tenure-track.

Responsibilities: The teaching and research focus of this position is in the area of nutrition education and nutrition education policy that includes considerations of food system sustainability and food justice. More specifically, the applicant will teach graduate-level courses in nutrition education; food, nutrition and behavior; and nutrition and food as viewed from a global, ecological perspective. The applicant will also supervise doctoral and advanced master’s degree research. The applicant’s program of research will build on, and creatively extend the nutrition program’s long-time influential research in behavioral nutrition and nutrition education through working at the intersection of nutrition education, nutrition education policy and public health. The applicant will have the opportunity to collaborate in the work of the Laurie M. Tisch Center for Food, Education & Policy, housed within the Program in Nutrition, which conducts research on food and nutrition education practice and policy and translates the research into resources for educators, policy makers and advocates. 

The Program in Nutrition currently offers MS degrees in Nutrition Education, Nutrition and Public Health, and Nutrition and Exercise Physiology; a MEd in Community Nutrition Education; a PhD in Behavioral Nutrition; and an ACEND-accredited Dietetic Internship Program. Founded in 1909, the program has been at the forefront of the field, providing leadership both nationally and internationally.
