Hillsdale College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of French to begin in August, 2021. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in hand by the time of the appointment. We seek a dynamic candidate with teaching and scholarly interests in Medieval, 16th-, 17th- or 20th-/21st-century French studies. The successful candidate should demonstrate excellence in teaching language and literature at all undergraduate levels, native or near-native fluency in French and English, and evidence of scholarly potential. All courses are taught in the target language.

Hillsdale College is a selective, independent, four-year liberal arts college. Hillsdale has traditionally upheld two concepts: academic excellence and institutional independence. Applicants must send a letter of application that presents evidence of strong teaching skills and an active, focused research agenda. Applicants must also include two separate documents:  a) a statement of teaching philosophy and professional goals; and b) a detailed response to the College’s Mission Statement (see www.hillsdale.edu/about/mission/) that includes a discussion of the candidate’s ability to teach in the light of its commitments. The application must also include a curriculum vitae, three up-to-date confidential letters of recommendation, and graduate transcripts. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

All materials must be received by November 16, 2020. Send all application materials via Interfolio. Initial interviews will be scheduled on Zoom. Any questions should be directed to Dr. Sherri Rose, Chair and Associate Professor, French Department, Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, MI. 49242
